MORE QUOTES

Shivon Lavely, Lincoln Elementary School, Exeter
We were enthralled by Evo's musical performance! it was a wonderful experience to hear such a variety of instruments. The diversity of music enriched the program too! Blues, Cajun, folk, Appalachian. Evo has a calm intelligent and sensitive approach toward children. We loved having him at our school.

Paula O'Rafferty, Primary Teacher
Alpha Elementary School, Madera

I felt Mr. Bluestein did an excellent job of linking history through music. I especially liked the participation parts and the students loved the banjo portion which challenged their listening and hand coordination.

Mike Mueller, Director of State and Federal Programs
McCabe School, Mendota

I was glad to hear the autoharp, especially the Woody Guthrie favorite. But it was the Appalachian Mountain dulcimer that I believe I liked the best. What a sound! Simple, yet beautifully played! Your kind of performance made a big impression on me, the staff and the students. We will definitely work out the Migrant Scholars program. Thanks again, Evo.

Karey Palmer, Teacher
Aztec Elementary School, Scottsdale, Arizona
What a great assembly today! It was so nice to have the kids introduced to such a variety of instruments in such an entertaining way!

Dave Highbaugh, Student Activities Director,
Selma High School

These are "MTV" kids who want high energy. You presented something more important--folk music with a human touch. I applaud what you do!

Pat Vietti, Program Manager
Fort Miller Middle School, Fresno
Thank you for the wonderful educational performance you presented to our student body. As I watched the students while you performed, I was amazed to see their faces so transfixed. The multitude of questions they had after the performance was proof that their attention was, indeed, yours throughout the morning. We are grateful for your skill in music and dance as well as the knowledge of history and culture.

Mrs. Oppliger, Teacher
Fresno High School

My students liked the novelty of being exposed to music they'd never been exposed to before. They also liked the diversity. I thought the show was great.

Mary Van Vleet, History Teacher McLane High School, Fresno
I want to thank you for your contributions to our students' study of the tradition of protest in American democracy in presenting your program for our 11th and 12th grade Social Studies students here at McLane High. I appreciate your efforts and hard work.

Godfrey Coppinger, Teacher
Children's Creative World, Fresno

Thank you so much for performing for our classroom at Children's Creative World. The children and their parents are still talking about it and the hallways and classrooms are ringing with the sound of clogging feet! Your presentation was both entertaining and educational. This age group can be difficult to work with, but you handled them beautifully with a mixture of kindness, humor and discipline. We hope to have you back again soon!

Dale Campbell, Principal,
Delta ViewSchool, Hanford

Everyone at Delta View enjoyed the time that you spent with us last Thursday. The faculty especially appreciated the excellent cross-section of folk music you presented to the students. Keep in touch with your new friends in the South Valley.

Sally Gate

The children were especially responsive and the whole audience really enjoyed your very professional, educational, and entertaining performance . . . thank you again for a job well done

.Yvonne Hill, Student
Spring Valley School, Madera

Thank you, it was fun. I love the folk music; it was cool and rad.

Pat Bernard, Teacher
McLane High School, Fresno

The audience was so attentive and appreciative that they applauded after Mr. Evo Bluestein's concluding remarks before the last song. The audience was so captivated that they respectfully remained seated even after the bell rang. The Bluesteins should be recognized for their talent and stagecraft.

Nadine Moroto, Teacher
Fairburn Elementary School, Los Angeles

My second grade class really enjoyed all of it--spoons, dancing, listening and learning. I hope you will continue to return to Fairburn as your music is an enriching part for all of us. Funding and politics are having a profound effect on public education right now and you are a breath of fresh air.

Doris Smith, Early Childhood Education,
Calif. State Univ. Fresno

Comments from the participants were very positive because you not only provided an inspiring and wonderful musical experience, but you also showed teachers specific activities, strategies, and techniques for classroom implementation. Your commitment to providing high quality music experiences and your demonstrated sensitivity to children are most apparent.

Eduardo Perez, Director
Centros De Amistad, Parlier

I was so impressed by the number of cultures included in your performance. As you know much better than I, music is the universal language that can help our community bridge ignorance and distrust of other cultures. When I think of a group that most represents the diversity of cultures in the San Joaquin Valley, I think of one group--The Bluesteins.

Martha Eads, Teacher
Spring Valley School, Madera

Thanks so much for a great concert. As Bill [our principal] said, 'You got a lot for your money!' Personally, I like the history that you tell along with the music. Your songs are great. I always look forward to having you.

Dot Harris, Coordinator
Univ. of Calif. Riverside Folk Club

Many of the children were in a high state of excitement following the children's concert, never having seen or heard so many instruments before and never having enjoyed a concert so much. The concert had great variety of material--some of which was ethnic and suited for any audience and some chosen for special appeal to younger audiences, but never patronizing.

Judith H. Brown, Executive Director
Solano County Arts Council

We have enjoyed your performances and find them not only entertaining but also educational. The lives of the children will be enriched by the diversity of your music.

Judy McFarlin, Teacher
Addams Elementary School, Fresno

My kindergartners and I were enthralled by your presentation last week! We were in the front row and it was amusing to watch the children's reactions to your diverse lessons. Our class consists of 32 students with over half having English as a second language. Many thanks for sharing your wonderful talents with us all.

Kathy Macedo
