On behalf of the Bluestein family members present--my
parents and my brother Jemmy, and also my brother Joel, and my
sister Frayda, who live on the east coast and couldn't be here,
thank you to councilman Mathys and the entire city council. This
is a nice tribute to the family and especially my parents. I'm
grateful to them for many things, but relating particularly to
my profession as a musician and a teacher, I thank my father
for teaching me how to teach. He always believed that doing things
like music and dance is as natural a thing to do as breathing
or walking and that everyone can do it. As Jemmy and I have travelled
around this valley performing in many schools we often meet teachers
or administrators who were students of my father at the university.
They all seem to remember their classes with him as a highlight
of their university experience. We're glad we can continue in
this family tradition of teaching and performing.
